Pre-Crisis, it was spelled slightly different: Mxyztplk (pronounced:
mix-izt-plik).

I disagree. Earth-1 Silver Age Myxy was spelled with a "pt". His
older, Earth-2 incarnation was spelled with a "tp".

I think the "traditional" answer is: just like it's spelled. :-)

Many years ago, DC answered that in a letters column. IIRC, the answer
consisted of 5 syllables, but I could well be wrong.

If your question is how do *I* pronounce it, my answer would be
"poorly, and with the wrong inflections".

The hard part is pronouncing Kltpzyxm.

It doesn't matter, you'll never get all the 5th dimensional
subtleties right with a 4-dimensional tongue, larynx,
and masque. Sorta like westerners not getting the hang
of tonal languages from Asia.

in my thougths as well...


When I was a kid I had a 33 1/3 LP with 3 or 4 superman stories on it.
I really wish I wouldnt have trashed it then, but I was like 5 or
so..... What did I know.... thing probably would have been worth a
mint by now. Anyways, one of the stories involved Mr. Mxyzptlk, but I
do believe that it was spelled differently. This was almost 30 years
ago, so I cant be certain, but I want to say that they pronounced it
Mix-uhl-plik.

Which I believe is the way they pronounced it on the Sat Morning
Cartoon as well. But its been way too long since I have seen them, so
I coudl be totally off base.

According to the book "The Animated Series Guide: Superman" it's
pronounced:

Mix-yez-pittle-ick

You can just use 'Mxy' (Mixy) for short, but when he's around you
should call him Mr Mxyzptlk. ;-)

His girlfriend's name is Miss Gsptlsnz.
